2018/19 gold strike resolved

On 14 November 2018 Sibanye-Stillwater signed a three year collective gold wage offer with NUM, Solidarity and UASA. The wage increases signed by the three unions is significantly above inflation and the average basic pay for category 4-8 employees has increased by more than 65% since 2013. This wage agreement represents a very real improvement in the standard of living of our employees while taking the longer term sustainability of the gold operations into consideration.

Notwithstanding the fair offer and numerous attempts by Sibanye-Stillwater to reach a fair and reasonable outcome with AMCU representatives since the negotiations began in June 2018, AMCU embarked on a strike from 21 November 2018. The strike lasted almost of five months when an agreement was reach on 17 April 2019 which ended the strike. The agreement included AMCU signing the initial 2018 collective wage agreement as well as inter alia an ex Gracia payment of R4,000 to all gold employees to elevate the hard ship experienced during the extended strike.
