A brief history
- Our recycling journey began in 2017 with the acquisition of the Columbus Metallurgical Complex in Montana through the Stillwater acquisition, establishing strong capabilities in PGM recovery from spent automotive catalysts.
- In 2024, we expanded into electronics and jewelry precious metals recycling with the acquisition of Reldan, shortly after Reldan incorporated PMPC.
- In 2025, the addition of Metallix Refining Inc. solidified Sibanye-Stillwater Recycling operations’ position as a major North American recycler in the secondary supply of precious metals market.

How precious metals recovery works

1. Waste stream identification
Plating solutions, sludges, resins, scrap components, and rinse waters are sampled and analyzed.

2. Waste stream processing
Material profiling determines the processing route based on the metal, substrate, and complexity of separation.

3. Analytical laboratory
Samples of each
lot are sent to the precious metal testing laboratory for their precious metal type and content.

4. Refining and reporting
Recovered metals are refined to specification with full transparency, compliance, and traceability.
